A dentist in Florence will provide a variety of services. Examples include cosmetic dentistry, gum disease treatment, and education on proper dental hygiene.
What Is Periodontal Disease?
Periodontal disease is gum disease. It is usually caused by poor dental hygiene, but some people do have a genetic susceptibility to it.
Gum disease has two stages. In gingivitis, which is the early stage, the disease is confined to the gums. A patient with gingivitis has gums that appear inflamed and reddened. Periodontitis is the later form of gum disease, and the disease has spread to other tissues including bone. Untreated periodontitis is a common cause of tooth loss. Fortunately, there are many treatments for gum disease, starting with an intense form of dental cleaning called scaling and planing.
What Is A Same-Day Crown?
A same-day crown is one made with CEREC, a computer-assisted technology that enables the dentist to make the crown while the patient waits. Traditional crowns require the dentist to take an impression and send it to a dental lab to have the crown custom-made. The patient usually has to wait several weeks. A same-day crown, by contrast, enables the patient to get their crown in just one visit.
What Is A Veneer?
A veneer is an extremely thin laminate used in cosmetic dentistry that is typically glued onto the front teeth. A veneer can correct such problems as discoloration, chips, or gaps. After preparing the patient’s tooth, the dentist will use CEREC to make the porcelain veneer. After making certain it fits, they will cement it to the patient’s tooth. With proper care, a veneer can last for up to 20 years.
