RV Dealers in Des Moines Increasingly See Millennial Customers

RV campers are commonly thought of as manufactured primarily for middle-aged individuals and baby boomers who want to travel and experience the great outdoors, but no longer have the patience for tent camping. However, RV dealers in Des Moines increasingly are selling these vehicles to members of the millenial generation, who currently are between the ages of 23 and 38. Research and surveys have uncovered the reasons why these younger men and women are choosing to buy RVs.

Relevant Statistics

An annual study supported by Kampgrounds of America, better known as KOA, found nearly 40 percent of the 75 million households defined as active campers are millennials. These younger adults put a bigger emphasis on physical activities like hiking in the woods and mountain biking. They also view camping as a social event they share with friends and family.

One interesting statistic shows that anyone who is new to camping is most likely to start with tent camping. That accounts for more than half of people who identify themselves as recent converts to the activity. Nearly 20 percent have approached camping by starting with an RV they have purchased, rented or borrowed from a friend or relative. They may feel that tent camping is a bit too rough for their tastes.

Tents, Cabins and RVs

Many of these individuals do participate in tent camping, and some of them include renting cabins as a form of camping. Statistics are not readily available as to the percentage of this group that has bought any type of RV, from a pickup truck camper to a small pop-up trailer to a fifth-wheel model. RV dealers in Des Moines are ready to help customers find the camper they want and can afford.

The Option of Buying Used Campers

Because younger adults typically are still building up their savings, and spending money on buying a house and raising a family, they may be in the market for one of the used campers at a dealership such as Imperial RV Center. That way, they can still enjoy the comfort and convenience of a camper while spending less on the purchase.
